A good panty line is very sexy but elusive. In my opinion, not too high…not too low, and definitely not too tight. Butt of course I don’t panty line shame - maybe you like it tight, I don’t judge.
I personally think that Merica Lee jeans are the perfect canvas for a good panty line; no pockets, only a smooth surface underneath a nicely curved yolk. Making panties just made sense. The jeans > then panties > then socks - an organic journey almost like a spider web…
The design of the Premiers is based on a discontinued style by Old Navy! Let me know in the comments if you remember <3
I think I spent 2 years searching for the perfect trim. I didn’t want anything with flowers, which omg was impossible to find. The trim on the BLACK MOONS and the Premiers have cool art deco circular shapes. Most importantly, they have the perfect give, they dig in to just the right degree.
I once traded a meeting with the head boss lady at Fab Scrap; a meeting to pick her brain about earth conscience fabrics for intimates, for a day of volunteering. The volunteering took place in a warehouse, I want to say in the Bronx? I was volunteering with some cuties who were there for a graduate class at FIT. We spent a couple of hours sorting through bags and bags of fabric scraps separating them into smaller bags: one for wool, one for cotton, larger scraps that could be used again, one for scraps that can be made into insulation and stuffing for things like moving blankets, and one for garbage. It was actually fun! We listened to music and I chatted with the other volunteers and at the end of the day it felt great to be helping in some small way.
At the end of my session, as promised, I got to take a moment to speak with Jessica Schrieber, the founder and CEO of FabScrap, to ask her questions about some sort of sexy mesh that wouldn’t just end up floating around coral corpses in the ocean in 200 years. She said that at that time there weren’t many options but companies were working on it and that the best thing I could do was to make sure I was working with factories that treat their employees well. Sooner or later companies would develop materials we could use! In the meantime she said to make sure my stuff is cut and sewn and America where the laws protecting workers are way more strict than other places. I followed her advice and my socks and panties are sewn right here in NYC, baby. These days there are more options for materials and I have been researching some products such as a stretchy mesh made from recycled water bottles. Hopefully I can get my hands some so that the next run of socks and panties will be a mesh made by clearing plastic bottles from the ocean!
The idea for the SHAEFFER SOCKS came about as I was sitting around with my fabulous friend Shaeffer discussing the importance of reducing waste in garment production, when she suggested that I should have socks cut and sewn at the same time as the panties as a way to use ALL the mesh and avoid waste - BOOM hello Schaefer Socks!
I’m still working out all the details with my factory but am hoping that eventually making these pieces at the same time will reduce waste. I’m always trying to make my products better but as a one woman show, these changes can feel glacial.
I have also been thinking so much about how we think about clothes, how we care for garments, how we shop, what happens to our clothes when we’re finished with them. Instead of a “jeans haul” can we buy one pair that’s made really well that we can repair when the crotch blows. Then when we’re finished wearing them, we can give them to someone else to love. Can we get to a place where truly sustainable clothing isn’t a million dollars and only rich people can afford to buy them? Can we get to a place where garment workers AROUND THE GLOBE are paid a living wage and clothing companies in the global north aren’t exploiting countries in the global south for cheap labor, resources and a dumping ground for it’s old clothing?
But I digress lol.
In the meantime, it’s the month of Love and Eros, the mischievous god of love. S/He would want you to have good panty lines either under your jeans or under the covers……
